More tidbits from Florida coach Billy Donovan’s speaking engagement in Ocala last week. – Donovan said his two biggest concerns heading into the season are unrealistic expectations surrounding incoming freshman McDonald’s All American guard Kenny Boynton, and junior center Vernon Macklin, a transfer from Georgetown: “If Vernon was this dominant center, he would still be at Georgetown. Tishman enrolled

According to school records, Israeli point guard Nimrod Tishman is enrolled for classes for the fall semester at UF. Tishman is still awaiting NCAA clearance to determine if he’ll be able to play basketball at UF this season. Because Tishman played overseas, the NCAA must determine whether his ties with the Maccabi Tel-Aviv club team affected his amateur status. UF schedule set

The SEC released its full men’s basketball schedule this afternoon, meaning Florida’s 2009-10 slate is now set. Florida will open SEC play on Jan. 9 at Vanderbilt and close SEC play March 7 at Kentucky. Kentucky also will serve as the SEC home opener on Jan. 12 with a 9 p.m. tip at the O’Connell Center. Legends semis set

The semifinals for the Legends classic were announced by the Gazelle Group on Tuesday. In the marquee game of the weekend, Florida will play Michigan State on Friday night, Nov. 27, in Atlantic City, N.J. Florida’s 2009-10 schedule continued to take shape with the announcement of ESPN’s Super Tuesday lineup. Florida will host Kentucky on Jan. 12 at 9 p.m. at the O’Connell in a Tuesday night ESPN televised game. Pitino controversy and UF

In many ways, Louisville coach Rick Pitino has been a second father to Florida coach Billy Donovan. In a poignant moment at the Dick Vitale gala last May, Donovan wondered  what his life would have been like without Pitino. It was Pitino who developed the pudgy Donovan into a star college player at Providence, then helped launch his coaching career when he hired him as a graduate assistant at Kentucky. In yet another sign of the apocalypse, an athlete who has yet to begin his junior year in high school has sent out a press release. Mind you, this is no ordinary high school sophomore. UF-Syracuse set

ESPN has set the start time of Florida’s SEC-Big East Challenge game against Syracuse. The game will tip-off at 9 p.m. on Dec. 10 at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa and will air on ESPN. Mississippi State and DePaul will play the previous game of the doubleheader at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2. Tickets for the game are expected to go on sale in early September.
