Southeastern Conference coaches held their annual summer teleconference on Monday.
Unfortunately, Florida coach Billy Donovan missed the call due to a travel snafu. Associate coach Larry Shyatt subbed for BD and stressed the importance of UF finding a future point guard to replace the recently departed Nick Calathes.
I asked Shyatt on the teleconference how much Kenny Boynton could help at the point based on what he’s seen of the 6-foot-2 combo guard: “We are really setting our jets right now on … Read More »

Boynton cut from Team USA
by admin
In a good news/bad news scenario, heralded incoming freshman Florida guard Kenny Boynton was just cut from the U.S. men’s under-19 team, according to a source watching the team trials in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The good news is that Boynton will now arrive on campus in time for the second summer session later this month and will get a full offseason of training and conditioning with his teammates.
The bad news is that Boynton, a 6-foot-2 … Read More »

More on MoMo
by admin
It appears that ex-USC signee Lamont “MoMo” Jones is growing more interested in wearing a Florida uniform this season.
According to a reliable recruiting source, Jones is arriving in Gainesville on Tuesday night for a campus visit. But securing a commitment from Jones, a 5-foot-11 point guard from New York City, is far from a slam dunk. Jones still has strong ties with Arizona (his godfather reportedly works on Arizona coach Sean Miller’s new staff) and plans … Read More »

Recruiting update – point guard coming?
by admin
Florida’s search for a point guard to replace Nick Calathes could come after the recent resignation of USC coach Tim Floyd.
Lamont “Mo Mo” Jones, a 6-foot, 190-pound guard from New York City is interested in coming to Florida after being released from his USC letter of intent, according to a source close to the program.
Arizona also is in the mix, though ‘Zona insiders concede that he’s more interested in UF. Jones, the 88th ranked prospect in … Read More »

More on arrests
by admin
Here’s a final list that I’ve compiled that’s includes the legal brushes that have occurred during the Urban Meyer era. It includes 21 arrests in which players spent the night in jail and three more cases in which players received citations and were charged with a crime. So based on the semantics, you can count the arrest number at either 21 or 24. There are a few more incidents that I’ve found (e.g. the alleged Dee Webb, Kenneth … Read More »

Florida arrests
by admin
Had a chance to compile some data on the Florida football-related arrests during coach Urban Meyer’s four-year tenure.
Some of the numbers:
Of the 24 arrests, 15 were misdemeanors and nine were felonies.
Five were criminal-traffic related (e.g., knowingly driving with a suspended license)
Of the 24, 14 involved players that were either recruited by Zook or recruited in Meyer’s first recruiting class.
There were a few repeat offenders, most notably Jon … Read More »

Walker getting ready
by admin
Wearing a New York Yankees cap, Florida sophomore point guard Erving Walker and teammate Vernon Macklin took in Florida’s baseball regional win over Miami at McKethan Stadium.
With Nick Calathes off to a pro contract in Greece, Walker will take on an expanded role with the Gators next season. He’s currently the only scholarship point guard on the roster, but spent much of his time playing off the ball with Calathes last season.
“I’ve just been … Read More »
