To prepare for NBA workouts, Florida point guard Nick Calathes has begun working out at IMG Academy in Bradenton.
Calathes has been going back and forth from Gainesville to Bradenton for the past week-and-a-half and will begin working out there full time when he takes his last final exam Friday.
For now, Calathes is taking part in individual workouts to avoid potential injury. In the coming weeks, as more college prospects arrive, Calathes will be involved in more …

The Alex Tyus about-face brings to mind another Florida episode two years ago. I guess you can never say never. Think Gainesville isn’t magnetic? First, Billy Donovan chooses to come back to coach Florida after a six-day stint with the Orlando Magic in 2007. Then, Tyus is welcomed back to the program with open arms after an 11-day hiatus. Had a chance to reach the Tyus household on Monday, but still no new developments on whether Alex Tyus will end up back at Florida.
Tyus’ father, Thomas, said his son did not, “want to talk at this time” after I identified myself in a phone call Monday night.

ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale was in a chipper mood when I reached him on his cell phone last week.
He was watching a high school baseball in the Sarasota area that included a couple of senior pitchers that were signed to go to Florida next season. Florida baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan also was there watching his future prized prospects.

There have been rumblings on some message boards that sophomore center Alex Tyus is reconsidering his decision to transfer from Florida.
Tyus’ father, Thomas, confirmed that Tyus had a meeting with Florida coach Billy Donovan on Thursday night, but didn’t know what happened during the meeting.
“I haven’t had a chance to talk to him the last couple of days because I work nights,” Thomas Tyus said.

Allan Chaney is generating interest from several Division I teams since announcing his decision to transfer from Florida two weeks ago.
According to a stroy in TheDay.com, Chaney’s hometown newspaper, Chaney’s family already has visited with Virginia Tech coach Seth Greenberg. Miami is expected to visit with Chaney this week and Penn State has contacted the 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward. Indiana, Rutgers, Providence and Rhode Island also has expressed interested.

While Florida has dived into the John Wall sweepstakes, a more sure fire signee for the Gators may reside in the state of Alabama.

Here are some comments that former Florida sophomore center Alex Tyus placed on his Facebook page about an hour ago regarding his decision to transfer Friday. In it, Tyus said his grades were good and that it didn’t have to do with following his girlfriend, former Gator volleyball player Alli Cecchini, who is leaving campus to return to her native California. I had a chance to catch up with incoming 2009 freshman Florida guard Kenny Boynton on Tuesday afternoon at American Heritage High School in Plantation. Florida team spokesman Fred Demarest confirmed Friday that DeShawn Painter has requested the release from his letter of intent.
Demarest said that Florida will grant the release. The process should officially be done by early next week, leaving the 6-foot-9 Painter open to sign with another school.
