Scout.com’s Dave Telep is reporting that former Georgetown forward/center Vernon Macklin will visit the Florida campus today and Friday.
Macklin (6-9, 227 pounds) decided to transfer this spring after averaging 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in limited playing time during his sophomore season. He may be a better fit at Florida because of his ability to run the floor and defend at the front of UF’s press.

Taurean Green’s four-stop odyssey through his rookie season came to an unceremonious end Monday night when the Los Angeles Lakers swept the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA Western Conference playoffs.
The former UF point guard did not appear in the four games but was on the playoff roster and was one of a few Denver players on the team bus when it caught fire before Game 1 of the playoff series.

An alumni game pitting Florida’s stars from throughout the Billy Donovan era against each other has been scheduled for June.
Unfortunately, fans will have to drive south to see it. The game, which will feature players from the 2000-01 era against players from 2004-07 will take place June 28 at Florida Atlantic University Arena in Boca Raton. An autograph session will take place from 12:30-2:30 p.m., followed by the 3:30 p.m. tipoff.

It appears that former UF forward Jonathan Mitchell will wind up in the Big East Conference for his final two seasons of eligibility.
Mitchell’s uncle, Herb Mitchell confirmed Tuesday that Mitchell has visits scheduled at Seton Hall the weekend of May 2-3 and St. John’s the weekend of May 16-17.
A visit to a third Big East school likely will be finalized in a few days, Herb Mitchell said.

Florida incoming 2008 freshmen Ray Shipman learned a bit more about the intensity of the Florida-Kentucky rivalry over the weekend.
Booed during pregame introductions at the Derby Classic in Louisville, Ky., when he was announced as a Florida signee, Shipman responded with an 18-point performance, going 4-for-6 from 3-point range.

Former Gators Corey Brewer and Chris Richard said they weren’t surprised that sophomore center Marreese Speights put his name in for the NBA draft.
Both Richard and Brewer were in Orlando on Friday night, winding down their rookie seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“I figured he’d test the waters,” Brewer said of Speights. “He has a chance to go pretty high. He’s talented and gifted.”

Here’s what an NBA scout, on the condition of anonymity, just said
about Marreese Speights’ decision to declare for the NBA draft without
an agent.The scout recently watched Speights play in the SEC Tournament:
“With normal progress, he would be a lottery pick after next season. The way this thing is going, we take so many of these kids that aren’t ready based on potential. He’s got great upside, but I think he needs another year in school.”

Florida coach Billy Donovan will serve as a guest studio analyst during CBS’ Final Four coverage this weekend.
Donovan has guided Florida to three Final Fours in 12 seasons, including back-to-back national titles in 2006 and 2007.
Florida football coach Urban Meyer served as a guest studio analyst during last January’s BCS title game between LSU and Ohio State.
