New Jacksonville coach Kerwin Bell said he’s buried the hatchet with his former head coach at Florida, Galen Hall. Bell said Hall, the offensive coordinator at Penn State, called to congratulate him shortly after he accepted the Jacksonville job last January.
A rift between Hall and Bell occurred when the two were reunited as coach and quarterback with Orlando in the World Football League. Hall benched Bell during the 1991 season.

Xavier Gibson is nearing a decision to commit to a Division I basketball scholarship, and Florida remains in the mix.
Gibson, a 6-foot-9, 190-pound center from Dothan, Ala., confirmed that Florida was in his final three, along with North Carolina and Georgia Tech. Gibson is the 11th ranked center in the Class of 2008, according to Scout.com.
“I like Florida’s tradition,” Gibson said Friday at the AAU Under-17 Division I boys championships in Orlando. “They’ve won championships.”

Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan poked a bit of fun at himself Tuesday at a Rotary Club meeting in Gainesville.
Before taking questions from the gathering of about 300 at the Paramount Hotel, Donovan quipped, “If it comes to any career decisions that you need help with, I’m probably not the best guy to talk about it.”
