All-decade team

by Kevin Brockway

Thought I would take a cue from Sports Illustrated and come up with an all-decade team for Florida men’s basketball.

To quality, a player must have played in a Gator uniform from 2000-2009. As a result, players from the 1999-2000 Final Four team are eligible.

A look at the team:

Starters

C – Joakim Noah

F – Al Horford

F – Corey Brewer

G – Taurean Green

G – Mike Miller

Bench

G – Lee Humphrey

G – Nick Calathes

G – Anthony Roberson

G – Teddy Dupay

F – David Lee

F – Udonis Haslem

F – Matt Bonner

I’d add in Brent Wright and Chris Richard on the bench, both guys were never afraid to get down and dirty on the floor, get rebounds, and foul guys hard (you weren’t getting anything easy around them). Our best teams always had “tough” guys around the basket along with Noah, Lee, and Haslem and its no surprise those teams all won titles. I would take out Calathes, he was good cause he had to be cause we had no one else on the team. He had alot of assists but also a ton of turnovers. I would also add in Matt Walsh, he had alot of turnovers too but he also made a bunch of big shots in his career and had a knack for getting huge rebounds and assists.

Nick Calathes? Anthony Roberson? Two guys who didn’t win anything in college and bailed early for the money. How about Chris Richard and Brent Wright.

I will defend those choices. Calathes broke UF assist records both of his years. Roberson was an All-SEC player.

Have to say, when David Lee and Udonis Haslem are coming off your bench, that’s impressive.

Oh and Roberson did win the first ever SEC Tournament Title at UF.

good point, two NBA starters (at least until this year, Haslem is now backing up Beasley) coming off the bench is sweet.

My initial thought though is…if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. take out Miller and put in Humphrey…those guys went back to back…don’t mess with the chemistry!!!

ALL DECADE GUYS SHOULD HAVE PLAYED AT LEAST 3 YEARS.

    PURE PLAYERS RANKINGS
    MILLER, HORFORD, HASLEM, CALATHES, BREWER,

DEPAY MOST DETERMINED AND REALLY LEAD TO FUTURE RECRUITS SELECTING FLORIDA

THIS PROBABLY IS GATORS BEST DECADE

I AGREE THAT HORFORD * NOAH WERE GOOD, BUT WE DO NOT BEAT OHIO ST WITHOUT RICHARD & SPEIGHTS (IT TOOK ALL 4)
