My SEC picks

by Kevin Brockway

I’ve been asked again to provide a ballot for the SEC men’s basketball preseason awards.

I picked Florida to finish fourth in the SEC East division and no Gator players on the All-SEC team. I also picked Kentucky as the SEC champion and UK freshman John Wall on the All-SEC first team. If there was a ballot for an All-SEC second team, I would have given Kenny Boynton and Alex Tyus some consideration.

Here’s my ballot:

East Division

1. Kentucky
2. Tennessee
3. South Carolina
4. Florida
5. Vanderbilt
6. Georgia

West Division

1. Mississippi State
2. Ole Miss
3. Alabama
4. LSU
5. Arkansas
6. Auburn

All-SEC team

C — Jarvis Varnado, Mississippi State
F — Patrick Patterson, Kentucky
G — John Wall, Kentucky
G – Terrico White, Ole Miss
G – Devan Downey, South Carolina

SEC Champion: Kentucky
SEC Player of the Year: Devan Downey, South Carolina

The preseason picks will be released by the league on Monday.

Wonder how long it will take for Calipari to ruin Kentucky’s basketball program and to be investigated for NCAA infractions, just like everywhere else he has been.

    What a scumbag.

Wow why would anyone not from Cat Pause put Wall on their preseason all sec team????? Seriously, he is a guy who has done nothing at the college level and really for all you or I know he may not even win the starting PG slot at UK over Bledsoe. I guess we all think Cal promised to start him to get him, but who really knows.

Since your team needs a wing how about Taylor at Vandy with his 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season in the SEC, not high school. You also could have put Hopson from UTn on as the wing who score 9.2 ponts per game last year.

Sure Wall may end up being all that and be on the post season all sec team, but to put him on the preseason team is a pretty big stretch. But for the preseason vote, why not reward guys who have been around and done something.
