Humphrey to play in Greece

by admin

Former Florida 3-point king Lee Humphrey is sweating it out in Greece, literally
The clutch shooting, 6-foot-2 guard signed a contract with PAOKThessaloniki and arrived in the Country of the Gods two weeks ago.

Thessaloniki is in northeast Greece, about two hours north of the capitalcity of Athens
The team set up Humphrey with a car and a condominium. Pretty sweet deal, until Humphrey found out the condo didn't have air conditioning
"Most of the places don't have a/c because it only gets hot two or threemonths a year," Humphrey's father, Tony, said. "But it's 95 degrees now soit's been a little rough. Last I heard, the team was trying to get him awindow unit.
Tony said Lee decided to sign with the Greek team rather than wait for aninvite from the Washington Wizards or another NBA team in October camp.Humphrey played sparingly for the Wizards during summer league last July inLas Vegas
"I think he realized there were so many two (shooting) guards with theWizards that it was going to be pretty hard (to make the team)," Tony said."He checked with some other teams but he was guaranteed an invite inOctober. The team in Greece wasn't going to leave the offer on the tablefor very long, so Lee decided to take it.
Tony said other than the a/c issues that his son is adapting to the newcountry well. He started practice with the team this week. The season opensnext month
"He likes the food and likes the people," Tony said. "Most of them he saysspeak English and are very friendly."
Humphrey graduated from Florida last month, completing his summerinternship to earn his degree in exercise physiology.
