SEC struggles

by admin

The Southeastern Conference didn’t help its sagging hoops reputation over the weekend, with Tennessee suffering a homecourt loss to Memphis and LSU suffering a homecourt loss to Xavier in a couple of important non-conference games.

But part of the reason for the SEC’s struggles may have to do with the relative youth and inexperience of the league. Two-thirds of the league is in the bottom 70 of Ken Pomeroy’s Division I rankings of teams based on team experience/age.

SEC teams in the bottom 70 (out of 344) include:

274 — Georgia

287 — Kentucky

295 — Tennessee

318 — Florida

320 — Mississippi State

337 — Vanderbilt

338 — Arkansas

343 — Ole Miss
