More on Hodge

by admin

Florida coach Billy Donovan said he was contacted by the Southeastern Conference regarding senior Walter Hodge’s flagrant technical against Kentucky.

Hodge was ejected for the final 16:04 of the game for the foul, in which he stepped on Kentucky junior forward Perry Stevenson.

“It was a hard, hard play because the officials had to make a decision based on Walter’s intentions,” Donovan said. “So what was Walter’s intention at the time. Well, nobody knows what Walter is thinking but Walter. I think when it happened the thing that made me feel a little bit better was that Walter went back to try to apologize to the guy.”

Because it was a flagrant technical and not considered a fight, Hodge will be available to play Saturday at Georgia. Donovan said he spoke with Hodge about the incident.

“Walter is a great competitor and a tough kid, but I would have never seen anything that would indicate that Walter would do something like that,” Donovan said. “Sometimes a guy could lose his emotions for a second and re-gather them. You make a mistake there.”
