Boynton cut from Team USA

by admin

In a good news/bad news scenario, heralded incoming freshman Florida guard Kenny Boynton was just cut from the U.S. men’s under-19 team, according to a source watching the team trials in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The good news is that Boynton will now arrive on campus in time for the second summer session later this month and will get a full offseason of training and conditioning with his teammates.

The bad news is that Boynton, a 6-foot-2 guard from Pompano Beach, will miss out on a chance to compete against the best young players in the world in the FIBA 19-under world championships in New Zealand.

The fact that Boynton was selected for the trials was an honor in and of itself. The majority of the players selected to take part in the trials were college freshmen, including Kentucky’s Darius Miller, Georgia’s Trey Thompkins, UConn’s Kemba Walker and Wake Forest’s Al-Farouq Aminu.
